Newcastle Ports brushes off Tinkler comments

Newcastle Port Corporation (NPC) has ignored criticism from Nathan Tinkler following the announcement of his coal loader plans.

Instead, it will focus on redeveloping its former BHP steelworks site, the Newcastle Herald has reported.

Yesterday, Tinkler criticised the corporation and its chief Gary Webb as well as coal loader Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS), stating that they had done nothing for the local Mayfield community.

Neither commented on Tinkler’s statements, with a NPC spokesperson saying that it has been working on the Mayfield development plan and that “(NPC chief executive) Webb continues to be committed to the corporation and the continued growth and diversity of trade in the port.”

Tinkler’s plan for the development of the site would include a coal loader, conveyor belt, two shipping berths as well as an upgraded rail system.
