New WA iron ore mine gets greenlight

The WA DMP has approved Ascot Resources Wonmunna iron ore mining proposal.

The miner has seen both its proposal and the associated mine closure plan approved.

The mine is located around 80 kilometres northwest of Newman and 30 kilometres west of Rio Tinto's West Angelas iron ore mine, and comprises three mining leases and exploration licence.

It is intersected by the Great Northern Highway, which provides it direct road access to Port Hedland.

According to Ascot the site has a total indicated and inferred resource of 13.5 and 84.3 million tonnes respectively.

The approval comes with a list of specified conditions, which will be built into Ascot's environmental management plans.

These most recent approvals, coupled with Ascot's native vegetation cleaning permit, provides it with the go-ahead to begin topsoil and overburden removal, following financing.

Ascot is also now in discussions with third parties for transport options to get its iron ore to market.
