New WA iron ore mine approved, set to begin in 2017

Mount Gibson Iron has received approval to develop the Iron Hill iron ore mine in Western Australia.

The Western Australian minister for the environment gave the approval, with Mount Gibson planning to begin development as soon as possible.

Mount Gibson CEO Jim Beyer said, “We welcome this important environmental approval of the Iron Hill mine, which takes us one step closer to commencing mine development in early 2017.”

As the mine is located 3km south of the recently depleted Extension Hill open pit, it will use the existing mine facilities and logistics arrangements.

Iron Hill has a total indicated and inferred mineral resources of 8.8 million tonnes.

The company plans to start production in the first half of 2017.
