The University of Queensland has added to its innovative Mining Leaders Program (MLP), offering for the first time the opportunity to receive credit towards the Graduate Certificate in Executive Leadership. This new offering provides a pathway towards UQ’s highly-regarded Master of Business Administration program.
The MLP has been specifically designed for the unique challenges of the sector, and represents a partnership between the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) and UQ Business School Executive Education. The program aims to empower functional heads, discipline managers, or newly appointed General Managers to become high performing leaders, building the capabilities to progress to executive and board level in the future.
This program provides an unparalleled experience by accessing cutting edge knowledge in leadership, mining research, technology, and business practice from across the University and its extensive network of industry partners.
According to MLP alumnus Mick Keough of AngloAmerican, the MLP is the “best leadership program as it’s both personal and professional. It takes people out of their comfort zone and facilitates wider shared learning and development across the workplace. MLP gave us knowledge and tools for the future and challenged us to think in a different way.”
The program is delivered through a blended learning model over five months to facilitate collaborative learning via two five day intensive face-to-face workshops, with participants individually completing two online learning modules ahead of each workshop. The program is supported by on-the-job learning between modules, individual leadership coaching sessions, and peer learning with fellow students and the extensive MLP alumni network.
