New open cut coal mine slated for Tasmania

Mining company Indicoal is seeking approval for an open cut mine near Hamilton in Tasmania.

Launching its development proposal and environmental management plan with the state’s Environmental Protection Authority, the slated mine would initially produce 400,000 tonnes of export coal per annum.

Production is then expected to rise over the next two years, reaching 910,000 tonnes a year.

The Langloh mine would be located off the Lyell Highway, and is expected to have a mine life of eight years.

The EPA has opened the proposal up for public comment until November 22.
