New Hope Coal suspends QLD operations

Queensland coal miner New Hope has suspended production as heavy rain and flooding continues across the state.

Queensland coal miner New Hope has suspended production as heavy rain and flooding continues across the state.

“At present, no flood damage has occurred at the mine sites, however, damage to transport infrastructure is currently being assessed,” a New Hope spokesperson said.

The company says it is unable to provide an estimate of how the floods will affect them in the long term, especially  as further torrential weather is predicted in the coming days.

New Hope joins a long line of mines which have been forced to close due to the weather, including Macarthur Coal, Vale, BMA, Peabody Energy and Rio Tinto.
