New gas pipeline from Murrin Murrin to Tropicana

A new gas pipeline construction contract has been awarded to a joint venture between AJ Lucas Group and Spiecapag Australia, for a line that will run east from Murrin Murrin in Western Australia.

The contract is part of the APA Goldfields gas pipeline expansion, which will see 293km of pipeline extending beyond Murrin Murrin’s lateral pipeline to Anglogold Ashanti’s Sunrise Dam and Tropicana gold mines.

Gas from the pipeline will be used to fire power generation facilities at the mines.

The JV contractor will be named Spiecapag Lucas, which will provide full service for the contract including trench excavation, pipe lay-in, placement and welding, surface protection and remediation.

AJ Lucas managing director Russell Eggers said the work would be a key contract for the company.

“This contract win is a result of our industry-leading experience, good safety record and strong client focus,” he said.

“It also extends our already established strategic partnership with Spiecapag Australia, which has been in place for more than 20 years.

“AJ Lucas continues to tender for a number of significant contracts and is strengthening its position for the future.”

AJ Lucas will set up a new office in Perth this month, and machinery mobilisation will commence in January 2015.

Pipeline construction will begin in March 2015, with completion scheduled for November 2015.
