More coal mine job cuts

Ashton Coal has let another 15 miners go at its open cut mine near Singleton.

The mine says it has had to let workers go as it awaits approvals for the extension of its South East open cut operation, according to the ABC.

It has been carrying out limited operations since December, and was forced to lay off 18 workers in July.

Ashton says while work at the mine finished last week, its remaining 70 employees will work at the Bowman’s Creek diversion until an approvals decision is made.
