Moranbah mine back on line

Aquila Resources say it Isaac Plains coal mine has restarted operations.

Aquila Resources say it Isaac Plains coal mine has restarted operations.

The mine, located near the Queensland town of Moranbah, saw flooding shut down operations and required Aquila to declare force majeure.

It has re-started mining, coal washing and train loading at the Bowen Basin operations.

In a statement to the ASX, the miner said it will be some time before the mine is back into full operation, as dewatering occurs at the coal mine.

Cockatoo Coal has also stated that it will re-start operations at its Baralaba coal mine February, after dewatering at the pit provides enough access to exposed benches.

A phased program of dewatering/mining is then expected to continue for several weeks as the mine returns to planned production capacity (about 150,000 tonnes per quarter)," Cockatoo annouced.

It halted work at the mine after severe flooding broke through the retaining wall of the open cut, filling the main pit.

Cockatoo will begin building a ‘one in one thousand year’ levee at Baralaba in February.

It is also aiming to resume futher exploration in the Bowen Basin later this year.
