Mining readies itself for Movember

Mo' money means more healthy miners, as the industry prepares for Movember.

Miners are taking part in the world's largest mining health movement, as workers from Coober Pedy to Kalgoorlie,Mount Morgan to Mount Isa, and right across the Pilbara join Movember.

Many of the majors are taking part in this year's fundraising, with BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Fortescue, and Chevron all supporting Movember's Mining Challenge by encouraging workers to grow moustaches.

Movember business engagement manager Tom Betts explained "Movember is a fun and positive initiative companies can use to engage staff across the business. We know the Mo is a great conversation starter and can be a catalyst for change in the workplace. A month of camaraderie and a little healthy Mo growing competition can certainly have positive impact on morale".

Thiess, Downer EDI Mining and Newcrest Mining already have teams set up for the 2013 challenge.

Last year the Mining Challenge raised close to $670 000 due to the efforts of 1934 people in the mining sector.
