Skilled white collar workers in Western Australia’s resources sector are in demand overseas, according to the managing director of a global business firm.
Squire Sanders managing partner John Poulsen told a conference in Perth yesterday workers attached to the mining industry were a source of valuable talent in the business world, ABC News reports.
"It's mining services, mining services contractors, who provide the full range of services as to expert reports on mining resources, techniques on how to effectively mine different deposits, to accounting services, to legal services, so a full range of services," he said.
Poulson said emerging mining industries around the world were increasingly looking to tap the high quality talent that existed in places like WA.
But while the skills are in demand Poulson said demand from overseas companies wouldn’t necessarily mean the local industry would lose out.
"You'd find there's many, many services providers sitting at their desks here providing consulting services to other parts of the world and then if there's a mining project here, then they'll bid for that," he said.
