Mining guides increase in SEEK jobs

Mining and engineering continue to be key industries driving the growth in job opportunities on online recruitment portal, SEEK.

The latest data from SEEK showed a 16.2 per cent increase in new job ads during February compared to this time last year, with mining, engineering and agricultural the major contributors to the rise.

SEEK’s strongest performing industry category was mining, resources and energy with 45 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth.

The mining, resources and energy category led the increase for SEEK in several states, including Victoria (+81 per cent), Queensland (+62 per cent) and South Australia (+72 per cent).

In Western Australia, meanwhile, engineering job opportunities recorded a 65 per cent YoY increase in February.

“We are seeing particularly strong demand for engineering skills in Western Australia, and job ads in this sector have increased 63 per cent this month. Job growth in this sector is expected to continue,” SEEK ANZ managing director Kendra Banks said.
