A MINER’S arm was amputated recently after becoming entangled in a steel rib mesh and rotating drill steel.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has released a safety report following the incident, urging workers to be careful when operating equipment on-site.

Initial investigations by the NSW DPI investigation unit revealed the rib mesh was caught between the twin tips of the drill bit, causing the rib mesh to wrap around the drill steel when it rotated.

The miner had his left hand near the rib mesh and drill steel at the time of the incident.

Investigation into the incident continues.
