The Queensland Department of Mines and Energy (DME) has released a safety alert urging all mines to perform a risk assessment on all intersections to identify potential hazards after a rear dump truck and a light vehicle collided at a mine ramp intersection.

According to the alert, the rear wheels of the dump truck ran over and crushed the front section and the passenger side of the light vehicle.

The light vehicle driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut free, fortunately, he did not sustain any life threatening injuries.

After initial investigations, the DME suggested that all mines redesign intersections where access roads are at a slight angle, to ensure access is only gained from a right angle.
