Miner injured at Newland coal mine

A miner has been injured while working an excavator at the Newlands coal mine.

The is understood to have been operating a dozer and managed to injure his back while backing over a raised surface, according to the Daily Mercury.

The incident, which occurred late on Friday, happened whilst the man working on a new pad for a dragline.

According to the Queensland Department of Natural Resources the man was given first aid on site, and was later taken to Townsville Hospital.

The Department and the CFMEU are investigating the incident.
