A miner has been injured at BHP’s Eastern Ridge iron ore mine.
BHP has confirmed an incident occurred at the operation formerly known as Orebody 23.
A BHP spokesperson told Australian Mining that “an incident occurred at our Eastern Ridge site on 11 March 2014 which sadly resulted in the injury of one of our employees”.
According to The West, the injured miner is a 60 year old worker, who reportedly broke his leg in the unnamed incident, and was flown by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Perth.
However BHP could not confirm the miner's age, or the extent of his injuries.
Following the incident the spokesperson said “safety remains our top priority at all of our mine sites, and a thorough internal investigation in to the cause of the incident is underway”.
“The incident has been reported to the Department of Mines and Petroleum. The employee is receiving treatment in Perth.”
