Minara Resources has approved expenditure of $300 million for a heap leach expansion project at Murrin Murrin.

The project will see the expansions of the company’s heap leach project deliver 8000 to 10,000 tonnes of nickel per annum.

The additional capacity will come on stream progressively from late 2009.

Expansion plans will include a further five heap leach pads which will enable the company to expand up to 1 mtpa leach, installing a large liquor pre-heating circuit and enhancing the existing iron rejection circuit.

Minara operates the Murrin Murrin nickel and cobalt, joint venture project (60% Minara, 40% Glencore International AG) which is situated in the northern goldfields region between the towns of Leonora and Laverton.
