Metso has announced its purchase of Newcastle-based mining wear protection brand WEARX in an attempt to solidify its position as a premier mining services provider in Australia.

WEARX is a work solutions company that creates wear liners, rubber and ceramic lining, chutes, bulk handling equipment and skirting in order to help protect mine workers and extend operational life; its sales ending fiscal year 2017 were $35 million. Metso’s global network includes over 80 service centres in more than 50 countries, with a workforce of over 6,000 service employees (WEARX employs about 140 people, as a point of comparison).

The president and chief executive officer of Metso, Nico Delvaux, was pleased with the outcome, calling it a “good strategic fit”.

“Joining forces with WEARX gives us the opportunity to strengthen our position in the wear lining business and extends our offering for our Australian customers. We are very happy to welcome the WEARX team into Metso,” he said.
