Macmahon Holdings Limited has been awarded a $65 million contract to construct approximately 50 km of rail to the Mesa A mine for Robe River Mining Co Pty Ltd (a subsidiary of Rio Tinto Iron Ore) in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia.

The MESA A project includes the construction of a 47 km extension to the existing Deepdale rail line to the new mine site at Mesa A, together with an additional 3 km rail siding at Churdy Pool.

Macmahon will undertake the earthworks and drainage for this rail line and the project builds on the strong relationship established through the current civil construction contract at Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Cape Lambert port facilities, near Karratha.

The project is expected to commence in July and has an estimated completion date of May 2009.
