Merlin Diamonds unearths Australia’s fifth largest diamond

Merlin Diamonds has discovered a 35.26 carat brown diamond at the Merlin diamond mine in the Northern Territory, the fifth largest diamond unearthed in Australia.

The company also discovered a 14.6 carat brown diamond and a number of smaller white diamonds at site.

This comes after the company unearthed a rare blue diamond at the operations late last year. Despite the gem being “only a small diamond at 0.124 carats”, the company said it demonstrates the potential for valuable coloured diamonds at Merlin.

Blue diamonds are among the rarest of coloured diamonds, known to attract higher prices than pink diamonds.

The Merlin diamond mine is known for its large super white diamonds and discovering Australia’s largest diamond, at 104.73 carats.
