Man crushed by aluminium in Newcastle

A man has been crushed while loading aluminium at Newcastle's Carrington docks.

The incident occurred late last night whilst the 50 year old man was working on board a Chinese bulk carrier, the Newcastle Herald reports.

According to police a 20 tonne pallet of aluminium ingots was being loaded into the ship when it shifted unexpectedly, crushing the man.

The man died at the scene.
