Man airlifted from Rio bulk carrier

A man was airlifted from a Rio Tinto bulk carrier off Gladstone after suffering severe chest pains.

The 63 Sydney man was working on the RTM Wakmatha, 16 nautical miles off the coast, when he began to suffer chest pains, according to The Morning Bulletin.

He was rescued by the AGL Action Rescue helicopter, which was forced to land on the vessel in 20 to 30 knot winds.

Although the man was initially treated by medical crew onboard, he was eventually airlifted to the nearby Bundaberg Base Hospital after flight paramedics stabilised him.
