Lynas Corporation has overcome legal battles and environmental activists to produce the first rare earths products from its Malaysian processing plant.
In a brief statement today Lynas said it remained on track to ramp up production to 11,000 tonnes per annum by the second quarter of 2013.
Commercial production from the plant marks a significant milestone for the company, which has battled activists in Malaysia concerned about the project's impact on health and the environment.
The company has successfully fought off a number of legal battles attempting to stop progress at the Malaysian plant, but its share price has been hammered by the uncertain environment created by protesters.
Lynas mines rare earths from the Mt Weld mine in Western Australia and ships the ore to Malaysia for processing.
