Longwall build begins at Narrabri coal mine

Delta SBD has begun the surface build of the longwall at Whitehaven Coal’s Narrabri coal mine.

Phase One of the project is the surface build while Phase Two will dismantle the surface build and transport, and then install the longwall underground.

It is expected to begin in early January next year.

Delta will carry out project management and supply of all resources, including personnel, equipment and machinery.

It will immediately deploy the longwall diesel machinery it recently acquired, which consists of 60 tonne extra heavy duty vehicles, a 130 tonne shearer transporter, two 15 tonne multi-function units and three 55 tonne hydraulic power assist chock trailers.

Delta CEO Stephen Bizzaca stated that this project is a significant milestone as it establishes the company’s position as a longwall OEM and a mine operator.

“The Narrabri project enhances our ability to undertake the installation of the latest longwall technology,” Bizzaca added.
