Leighton wins Moorvale contract

Leighton Contractor’s mining division has won an extension for work at the Moorvale coal mine.

Worth approximately $125 million, the contract awarded by Macarthur Coal, a subsidiary of Peabody Energy, extends the previous agreement for mining services including management, fleet maintenance and operational services at the mine.

It will see work extended from June 2012 to September 2013.

Greg Fokes, general manager of Leighton Mining, said the contract extension was testament to the collaborative partnerships between the company and Macarthur.

He went on to say that "it is also a positive step for us in building our relationship with Peabody Energy following its 100% acquisition of Macarthur Coal in 2011".
