Kuhn and Duratray now field testing eco-friendly electric truck project

Duratray, known primarily for its global supply of haul trays and dump bodies to the mining industry, has announced the first trials of a new lithium-ion powered truck in collaboration with international energy specialist Kuhn Group.

The project, which is a collaboration between Duratray’s European division and Kuhn, is the product of 18 months of planning, and combines Duratray’s low-noise, low-carryback suspended dump body (SDB) trays with Kuhn’s engineering expertise in order to produce an eco-friendly, industrial grade mining truck.

Duratray’s SDB system also contributes to the ecologically minded nature of the project; reduced noise is better for the surrounding environment and reduced carryback in turn reduces waste and repeat trips, improving overall efficiency.

Initial testing is focused on a 60-tonne truck, though there is scope for expanding the project to heavier trucks in future should testing prove a success. A recently uploaded YouTube video of the green truck during a trial run in Switzerland can be viewed here.
