KCGM pours 20 millionth ounce

The Super Pit produced 170,000oz in the March quarter.

KCGM last week poured its 20 millionth ounce of gold from the Super Pit in Kalgoorlie.

It was the second historical moment for KCGM in June. The company, which has been operating in Western Australia’s Goldfields region since 1989, poured its 60 millionth ounce of gold from The Golden Mile on June 15.

KCGM general manager Ian Butler said the milestones were only possible because of the support of the community and the commitment of the company’s employees to be a safe, efficient and responsible producer.

“As a company we constantly look for opportunities to improve our performance to ensure we are sustainable well into the future,” Butler said.

“I am proud to say that we still have four employees who have been with KCGM right from the beginning in 1989.”

To celebrate the 20 million ounces of gold poured, all employees at KCGM will receive a special one ounce silver commemorative medallion with 24-carat gilded gold.

A 793 haul truck has been painted in recognition of the milestone, and to ensure the celebration is remembered until the end of the year the company plans to use this truck in the St Barbara’s Parade in Kalgoorlie during December.
