ProjectConnect has announced that 103 procurement packages have just been listed by the $1.8 billion Karara Iron Ore Project.

ProjectConnect has announced that 103 procurement packages have just been listed by the $1.8 billion Karara Iron Ore Project.

Located 225 m east of Geraldton the $1.8 billion Karara Iron Ore Project is being developed through a 50:50 Joint Venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and Chinese steel producer, Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation (AnSteel).

The project includes magnetite and hematite resources. First production of 8 Mtpa is scheduled for 2010. Initial production of 2Mtpa of Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) hematite is scheduled for 2009.

INPEX Browse, as operator of offshore permit area WA-285-P, has also proposed to develop the Ichthys Field in the Browse Basin to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensate for export to markets in Japan and elsewhere.
