Approximately 100 contractor jobs are set to be cut from Wesfarmers’ Curragh coal mine.
This is just the latest series of workforce reductions at the operation, following three rounds of cuts in June and July.
Speaking to a Curragh spokesperson, he told Australian Mining the operation “advised [contractor] Thiess there will be a reduced requirement [for workers] at the mine”.
“This is due to the ongoing challenges in coal and current market conditions,” he said.
The spokesperson declined to state how many workers would be let go, stating, “They’re not our employees, so the decision is ultimately up to Thiess.”
It is understood reductions will begin in November.
