Jobs cut at Cadia mine

Newcrest has cut approximately 100 workers from its Cadia Ridgeway operation as it places the site into care and maintenance.

According to its latest quarterly report, Newcrest is planning to place Ridgeway on care and maintenance, as less ore is sourced from the operation.

The miner is now turning its focus to its Cadia East mine, ramping up production at the site and moving the majority of the Ridgeway staff to the operation, however it could not find positions for every worker.

This has resulted in the loss of 100 positions, according to the ABC.

It will be split 50/50 between contractors and full time staff.
