
Japan has begun making changes to its resources laws to allow mining of the seabed.
According to the SMH, the country’s seabed resources could be worth as much as $3.6 trillion.
This new law is part of the Japanese Government’s plant to increase control of natural resources within the seabed inside of its exclusive economic zone.
It includes a stricter approval process, a new tender system and a mechanism to monitor projects from the beginning of exploration and drilling.
