Japan to mine the seabed

Japan has begun making changes to its resources laws to allow mining of the seabed.

According to the SMH, the country’s seabed resources could be worth as much as $3.6 trillion.

This new law is part of the Japanese Government’s plant to increase control of natural resources within the seabed inside of its exclusive economic zone.

It includes a stricter approval process, a new tender system and a mechanism to monitor projects from the beginning of exploration and drilling.
