Ivanhoe Australia has announced the appointment of Mike Spreadborough as its new chief operating office.
Spreadborough is currently a general manager with Rio Tinto’s Pilbara iron ore operations.
His appointment comes on the back of the miner’s two new major Cloncurry development slated for 2012 – the Osborne copper and gold project and the Merlin molybdenum and rhenium project.
The miner’s Mount Dore and Mount Elliott copper gold projects are also under study for production in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
Ivanhoe CEO Peter Reeve stated that “Mike’s appointment is a critical step on the path towards building a strong team to guide this transformation from explorer to producer.
“With production beginning from our Osborne and Kulthor underground mines in less than a year, and Merlin on schedule to start production later in 2012, Mike’s experience will be invaluable.”
