Innovation centre opens doors in Mackay

Australian mining businesses will have access to world class services with the opening of a long-awaited Mining Innovation Centre in Mackay.

Australian mining businesses will have access to world class services with the opening of a long-awaited Mining Innovation Centre in Mackay.

The $14 million centre will provide free business reviews and supporting grants to help boost jobs and productivity in the mining and resources sector. Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson, says the centre fills an “important gap” to find new markets and develop the Australian mining and resources technology industries.

“The centre will provide information tailored to the specific needs of the mining technology services sector so enterprises can improve their processes and grow their businesses,” he said.

The centre will find and adapt the latest research and technology so companies can improve their facilities and turn ideas into new products.

It will also identify new markets for cutting-edge technology and help identify sources of government support.

Ferguson says the facility will help mining companies to improve productivity and output and help them “work smarter” to ride out the global financial crisis.

The centre will also provide a range of networking opportunities as well as ongoing mentoring and support.
