IMARC 2020 goes digital to replace Melbourne conference

International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) 2020 has been postponed due to COVID-19.

The conference will be launched as an online event starting November 24.

The purpose of IMARC Online will remain consistent: to be a global platform for the industry’s leaders to come together and discuss hot topics that shape the future of the mining industry, which is integral to reshaping the global economy post-COVID-19.

The interactive program includes all the components that attendees would expect of the in-person event, including workshops, keynote presentations, networking, meetings and a virtual expo hall showcasing the latest mining projects, technology and innovations.

Additionally, IMARC Online is welcoming a series of co-located events such as IMARC METS Arena #LIVE, Mines and Money 5@5 and Mines and Money Online Connect.

Attendees will be able to create their own personalised program of content, meetings and networking events based on their interests, both within longer opening hours and on demand.

IMARC managing director Anita Richards said IMARC Online would make the event “truly international”.

“As geographical boundaries and travel time are no longer constraints for our attendees, we expect that IMARC Online will welcome more international attendees than ever before,” Richards said.

“We expect that IMARC Online will welcome more international attendees than ever before.”

According to Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) chief executive Stephen Durkin, coming together is “more important than ever” in a time of uncertainty.

“As a founding partner, AusIMM is looking forward to keeping our global community of mining connected through IMARC Online,” Durkin said.

“In a time of worldwide uncertainty, it is more important than ever for people working in resources to be able to come together to share their knowledge and expertise.”

In light of recent restrictions across Victoria and evolving global developments relating to COVID-19, the IMARC + Expo in-person event will be postponed to October 26–28 2021.

Austmine chief executive Christine Gibbs Stewart welcomed and supported this decision, stating that the health and safety of exhibitors and delegates was of “utmost importance”.

“Austmine welcomes and supports the decision to move IMARC online in 2020,” Gibbs Stewart said.

“Now more than ever it is important to unite as an industry, which is why Austmine is pleased to be offering networking and connection opportunities for mining and mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies at IMARC online.”
