More than 500 workers from Illawarra Coal will take part in a running event to raise much needed funds for Wollongong Hospital’s children’s ward.
Run Wollongong will be held on October 19, with Illawarra Coal employees and their families representing more than a quarter of registered participants.
The event aims to raise funds for the redevelopment of the Wollongong Hospital Children’s Ward & Illawarra Shoalhaven Children’s Assessment Unit.
Illawarra Coal president Troy McDonald said the event was a great way for workers to give back to the community, Illawarra Mercury reported.
‘‘Competing in Run Wollongong is a great way to encourage our employees to pursue and maintain a healthy lifestyle as well as supporting our local community,’’ McDonald said.
Run Wollongong is a 12K run and 6K run or walk traveling along Wollongong’s picturesque waterfront and Flagstaff Hill precinct.
Last year the event raised more than $215,002.
