Hillgrove Resources to reopen Kanmantoo mine

More than a hundred workers are preparing the Kanmantoo copper mine for reopening in the Adelaide Hills.

Construction is on track for the mine that has not been operational since market prices forced its closure in 1978.

Hillgrove Resources is expecting to produce 21 000 tonnes of copper per year for the next decade and company chairman Dean Brown said the reopening has come after five years of work with the local community to deal with environmental concerns.

"They had 129 issues that they raised with the company after those consultations and we’ve settled completely on 123 of them and the other six were, we reached a compromise," he said.
