Green light for Adelaide Hills

South Australian Minister for Mineral Resources Development Paul Holloway has announced a mineral lease has been granted to Hillsgrove Resources Limited for the development of the Kanmantoo copper gold mine in the Adelaide hills.

Kanmantoo is the second metal mine to be approved in the Mount Lofty Ranges under the State’s Rann government following last month’s opening of the Angas zinc project near Srathalbyn.

The mining site at Kanmantoo had previously operated until the mid 1970s. The lease is expected to greatly benefit the local economy.

“The project 55 km east of Adelaide will provide a boost to the local community with the potential to generate more than 150 new jobs and the injection of $55 million a year into the South Australian economy,” Holloway said.

Hillgrove formed the Kanmantoo Callington Community Consultative Committee to ensure consultation with the local community.

Holloway said Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA) is working with Hillgrove to develop a Mining and Rehabilitation Program to set out the project’s operational standards.

“Many of the recommendations put forward by the community as well as the company’s response will be used as the basis for the Mining and Rehabilitation Program now being negotiated between PIRSA officials and Hillgrove,” Holloway said.
