Geraldton Port to be upgraded

Mount Gibson Iron has upgraded its iron ore facilities at Geraldton Port.

According to the company this upgrade "will effectively double the export capacity of Mount Gibson's Geraldton port facilities to approximately six million tonnes per annum".

This grade will integrate a new high volume rail unloader with the miner's new 240 000 tonne Berth 5 storage facility and its current 120 000 tonne Berth 4 storage facility at the port.

Mt Gibson says the capacity of this new unloader is almost double that of the existing one.

Jim Beyer, Mt Gibson's CEO, said the completion of this upgrade is an important milestone for the company.

"These new facilities will enable us to rapidly ramp up shipments from out Extension Hill and Tallering Peak mines, and provide a platform for long term growth in the Mid West region.

Commissioning and ramp up are scheduled for completion by the end of the current quarter.
