Galaxy Resources has awarded a contract to Piacentini & Son to provide mining equipment and services at the Mt Cattlin spodumene project in Western Australia.

According to Galaxy, mining will commence at Mt Cattlin in early December to guarantee supply of run of mine ore for the processing plant. There is already about 230,000 tonnes of blasted and crushed ore at the site, which will be processed through the plant over the coming weeks until mining starts, the company added.

Privately-owned Piacentini will supply a Hitachi 1900 excavator, Caterpillar 777D dump trucks, Cat D9 dozer and other ancillary equipment, as well as operators and maintenance staff, to the operation.

The drill and blast component of the contract will also be delivered by Piacentini subcontractor, Dynamic Drill & Blast, which has operated in the region for many years.

Founded in the south-west region of WA, Piacentini’s clients include First Quantum Minerals, Iluka Resources, Griffin Coal and Alcoa.
