Galaxy extracts first ore

Galaxy Resources has begun extracting ore from its Mt Cattlin spodumene project.

Starting the extraction ahead of schedule, Galaxy exposed the first shallow pegmatite ore east of Pit 1A.

“Achieving this will guarantee supply of run of mine ore for the commissioning of the Mt Cattlin processing plant during the third quarter of 2010,” Galaxy managing director Iggy Tan said.

The miner has scheduled the stockpile building for September 2010.

By the end of the year, Galaxy expects to be the world’s second largest hard rock producer of lithium.
