Fortescue makes key appointment

Fortescue Metals Group has appointed Mark Barnaba as co-deputy chair, joining Sharon Warburton in the role.

Barnaba is already Fortescue’s lead independent director and chair, audit and risk management committee.

Fortescue chairman Andrew Forrest said Barnaba and Warburton brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the iron ore miner’s board.

“Our board leads and empowers the whole Fortescue team as they set and deliver against true stretch targets to achieve our vision of being the world’s safest, lowest cost and most profitable iron ore producer,” Forrest said.

“We are proud of our diversity and the strength and contribution of each of our directors to the core strategic and governance role that our board provides. I look forward to working with Mark, Sharon and all of the board through the next important phase of Fortescue’s development and growth journey.”

Barnaba was appointed to Fortescue’s board in February 2010 and as lead independent director in 2014.

Warburton is also the chair of Fortescue’s remuneration and nomination committee
