Fortescue Metals Group has appointed one of its directors, Elizabeth Gaines (pictured), to the role of chief financial officer.

Gaines will continue in her position as a non-executive director at Fortescue, while also remain the commissioner of Tourism WA, following the appointment. However, she will relinquish her other non-executive director positions prior to starting the Fortescue role on February 6.

Fortescue chief executive officer Nev Power said an exhaustive global search was conducted to fill the role.

“Elizabeth is a highly experienced CFO who also brings significant global, commercial and operational experience from a range of industry sectors to complement Fortescue’s highly capable finance team,” Power said.

“Elizabeth’s knowledge of Fortescue and her strong alignment with our culture will further strengthen the team as we continue our journey to be the safest, lowest cost, most profitable iron ore producer.”

Gaines is the former CEO of Helloworld. Prior to this, she was chief operating officer and CFO of Helloworld, CFO of Stella Group, chief finance and operations director of Entertainment Rights in the United Kingdom and CEO of Heytesbury.
