Former Shell executive joins BHP Billiton’s board

BHP Billiton has appointed British businessman and former Shell executive Malcolm Brinded to its board.

Brinded will sit as an independent Non-executive Director, and a member of the Sustainability Committee, effective immediately.

Brinded has held various leadership roles during a 37-year career with oil and gas giant Royal Dutch Shell.

His appointment to the BHP Billiton Board takes the number of Non-executive Directors to 13, which chairman Jac Nasser said reflected overlapping tenures required to successfully manage Board succession.

“Malcolm’s deep experience in energy, governance and sustainability will make a significant contribution to the Board as we identify and address the future needs of the business and the communities in which we operate,” Nasser added.
