FMG says skills shortage is easing

Fortescue Metals Group says pressure from the skills shortage is starting to ease as it focuses on completing construction of the Solomon Hub in the Pilbara.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports FMG boss Nev Power told the Diggers and Dealers conference the skills shortage had tapered off over recent weeks.

"We do see a cooling. That skills shortage has not occurred to the extend people expected," he said.

According to AAP Power also said completing the Solomon mines was one of the most important targets for FMG.

"The key for us will undoubtedly be the completion of construction and ramp up of the Solomon mines," he said.

"We've got all of the infrastructure coming along very nicely and it will come down to the completion of the ore processing facility and how quickly we can ramp them up."
