The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has released a safety alert after a worker was fatally injured in a rock loading operation.

According to the DPI, the vehicle’s operator cabin was inundated with rock material from a surface bin during a reject material transfer. An investigation is currently underway.

The DPI is urging mines using truck loading systems with storage bin systems to review hazard identification procedures and operator protection systems.

Mines should also review electrical and mechanical engineering control systems to ensure a high level of safety is maintained.
