Explosives fine for quarry

A man has been fined $10 000 for dangerously storing explosives.

Stephen Proctor improperly stored detonators in tyre at CEC Group’s quarry in Mount Isa, according to the ABC.

The detonators were left in the tyre for five months.

On top of this, there were neither warning signs nor indications of the blasting equipment within the tyre.

His actions were called “irresponsible in the extreme”.

Queensland has recently created a steering group to develop safer guidelines for the handling and usage of blasting equipment following a series of blasting fumes incidents.
