Downer wins Meandu coal mine contract extension; signs Adani agreement

Downer EDI has signed a two year extension for mining services at Stanwell’s Meandu coal mine and a technical services agreement with Adani.

The new Stanwell Corporation contract is valued at around $250 million.

Downer has been operating at Meandu since January 2015, with the original contract slated to finish in June 2018, however with this new agreement Downer will continue to operate on site until June 2020.

Meandu provides around 5.5 million tonnes of coal annually to the nearby Tarong and Tarong North power stations.

In the wake of this latest agreement, Downer has also signed a Technical Services Agreement with Adani to provide mine planning, design, and project execution services for Adani’s coal mines in India, as well as providing technical and operational support and technical reviews of Adania’s bids for the Indian coal block auction.

This agreement has an initial value of $2 million, and runs for 12 months.
