Downer EDI has been awarded a rolling stock contract for BHP iron ore operations in the Pilbara.

The company will supply Downer Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) Model SD70ACe/LCi locomotives for the next five years.

The first trains will be delivered in the second quarter of the year.

BHP’s contract is worth approximately $292 million, however with the options offered the total value could rise to more than $400 million.

The SD70ACe/LCi and its components are designed and built by EMD, which is part of the Caterpillar group of companies.

This latest contract follows on Downer designing, constructing, and supplying 17 new PR22L trains to TasRail – Tasmania’s rail network.
