Downer wins $100m contract with BHP Billiton

Downer EDI has won a $100 million contract for mining services at BHP Billiton’s Blackwater coal mine in Queensland.

The contract will run for two years with the option to extend for 12 months and will commence in July 2015.

In a statement to the ASX, Downer said the scope of work includes the load and haul of pre-strip material.

Downer is the incumbent pre-strip contractor at Blackwater with the existing term due to expire in June this year.

CEO of Downer, Grant Fenn, said he was pleased the contract would be renewed.

“Downer has a strong track record of providing mining services to BMA and helping it drive efficiencies across its operations,” Fenn said.

“We look forward to extending our working relationship and continuing to deliver efficient solutions for the Blackwater coal mine.”
